Where it all began....

I was looking back to when DH and I discovered we were pregnant...

It was March 2007 and DH and I were very busy, our wedding was planned for the next month and we still hadn't sorted the evening entertainment, the flowers and the honeymoon. We were also organising dress and suit fittings and meetings with the photographer and hotel to name a few others. We'd booked the wedding in July 2006 but had left a few things until the last minute!

We were also helping with our local scout and guide variety show "Chorley Capers". DH was lighting technician and I was operating a follow spot (spot light) for the first time ever with no prior training. It was a hectic week which involved mad dashes down the M6 & M61 after work, a quick tea and a dash to the theatre for 6pm every night. I loved it - I was absolutely exhausted but enjoying everything so much. It was during this show week that I discovered I was going to have a baby.

The weekend before the show started, was spent setting up, so DH & I were there all day helping put up lights, connect speakers, paint scenery and do any other odd jobs around the place. The place had been shut up for a while and the theater smelt horrible. Behind the stage was damp and there were numerous rat traps around. The smell knocked me back the first time I went back there, I was surprised as after a while I needed to run outside to get fresh air. I couldn't remember ever feeling that bad just from smelling a bad smell! I also felt queasy but put that down to PMS as my period was due on Monday.

Monday came and we attended the theatre to watch the show for the first time in rehearsal. We were busy writing down cue's and notes as to the actors positions on the stage when they would need spotlighting. I also practised altering the size of my spot and moving it slowing and gently. Even more difficult was keeping it still. At the end of the night I mentioned the lack of period to DH and he said not to worry it was only 1 day and would probably start the next day.

Tuesday came and by the evening, no period. I was worried, DH again rather "you've got your dates wrong" unconcerned.

Nothing on Wednesday either - by now each day was dragging and I couldn't concentrate at work. It was all I could think about. I went on numerous websites and got nowhere.

Thursday was horrendous, started looking back through my diary and remembered the night my friends had come to stay about 2 weeks ago...hmm....night out in town, a few glasses of wine, a night of passion with DH and oh yes we didn't use any contraception. Period now 4 days late. HHHMMMMM, but I was on my period when we did the deed - you can't get pregnant then surely??

Well after mumbling some feeble excuse about a headache I left work early, rang DH and ordered him to go to Tesco and get a pregnancy test. He went and got 2! I ran in the house and grabbed it off the stairs and went straight to the bathroom.

It was positive, the result came up in seconds. There was a big silent pause as I stood there not really knowing what to think/say/do. I was interrupted by DH coming upstairs. Once I told him I cried and cried. I don't know why really. I asked the stupid question "What are we going to do?" to which DH said have a baby!!

I rang a friend and told her, still a bit emotional. She told me to go to the doctors and everything would go from there.

One month later we were married on a beautiful sunny day in April and it was fantastic. I felt queasy at times but managed to get through the day and actually really enjoyed it. We went on honeymoon to France and stayed in a small cottage and self catered - not very flash but a good job as all I could eat was toast!

I had my 12 week scan and booking in appointment when we got back from honeymoon and we were all set for the due date which was only one day different to my calculations. We told people now and started to get used to the idea of being pregnant. I had queasy ness until 16 weeks and was so tired I constantly late for work and falling asleep after my tea. Then it was great and after the 20 week scan when we found out little bean was a boy, I finally got excited and we started to buy things for him and get a room ready.

The rest of the pregnancy went smoothly, I finished work at 37 weeks and little man was born exactly on month later.

I'll write my brith story on a new post.

Sir Strop-a-lot strikes again!

Today little man has argued with several children at messy play and tried to take toys off most of them and screamed when he's not got his own way or the desired toy. He had a major tantrum/strop over a toy train and got most upset when we had to put it back in the box and say goodbye to it.

He had a strop when mummy told him off for eating all the cake batter. He stropped when Grandma wouldn't let him go home in her car with her. He also had a major strop outside Tesco when he couldn't sit in the ride on Noddy car as he was strapped in the trolley seat.

Had several strops about being "duck" which translates to stuck in his language or in real life strapped into a pram, booster seat, higher chair or car seat. Refused to eat his lunch and his tea and actually pushed his plate away and said a very definite "NO!" (this one hasn't happened before)

But he didn't have a nap today so he was very tired and therefore after a major "i don't want to have a bath" strop bedtime was much easier and he fell asleep whilst breastfeeding! Wow - that hasn't happened since he was 6 months old. But shock horror - we've done it........

The cot bed is now a bed!!! Last night was hell and he woke up at 5.39am this morning (very unusual for my tot) and refused to go back to sleep, so he got breast milk and plonked in mummy and daddy's bed as it was still night time.

We haven't used a bed guard as the cot bed is only about 30cm high so any fall would be very minimal, however it's all very nerve wracking every creak or groan of the house has me panicking he's fallen out of bed and is running around the landing.

He's also developed an interest in a potty after having a wee on one at playgroup, so that's next to purchase.

To sum up - My little man is really growing up, really. Gosh. Happy and sad at the same time.

Tuesday Tots

The question that every mother and father consider in their lives at some point must be "shall we have anymore children?" or it might be phrased "Shall we have another baby?"

Perhaps the mother will propose the idea or perhaps the father will. Or in some circumstances maybe it's a case of "We're having another baby"

Well we are considering the very questions at the moment - little man has just interrupted my thoughts by waking up from his nap - yes he seems to need one every few days now - so better stop typing this.

DH is keen, I'm unsure...

My own little pot of gold

Recently for my birthday, when asked what I would like I replied, money please and NOT vouchers. Although vouchers are great they do limit where you can spend money and I seem to get Debenhams ones. I've found sometimes that shopping on other stores you get a lot more for your money.

Since late June I've enjoyed having my birthday money in my own little account. I bought a fleece whilst up in the Lakes recently, had lunch out with friends, got a coat from M&S which I really like and have still got some left. I gave me a sense of freedom again and I didn't have to feel guilty about whether we had enough money in the account or not. I've spent it carefully and only bought stuff I really like and that I really want.

I've also spent £10 on little man getting him a play tray and a fishing game. I thought a £10 gift card had £20 on it! He loves both of them.

I'm saving the remainder to get my hair cut and possibly indulge in a beauty treatment, I've always fancied a facial and a leaflet popped through the door with a special offer on recently so all I need to do now is find some babysitters! I like to choose for myself and I also want to get some new flip flops in summer sales plus a new tankini/swimsuit.

I'll miss it when it's gone, but hope to do the same at Christmas.

Long time no post

Well I've not posted for a while now, not really known what to write sometimes. Lots has been happening in mummy and little man world, but only just recently. We've had a long period of nothing new but since turning 20 months he's suddenly started up with a few new things.

  • Grabbing one's hand and dragging to desired toy/area is a great way to get what you want without saying anything.
  • A few new words emerging and existing ones becoming clearer in their definition. "agig" is mummy milk, illkk is moo cow milk,
  • An attempt at sentences, e.g. "Mummy, Mummy choo choo go"
  • Counting in his own little way with made up sounds for numbers
  • Saying bubbees for poo and doing one in the toilet (just sheer good luck I think there)
  • Seems to have found a girlfriend from playgroup and gave her a hug last week, today she let him ride her Peppa Pig Scooter in the park, to mine and her Grandparent's surprise. As most of us know 2 and half year olds are not big on sharing. He also let her have it back when she asked!!!!! They then chased each other all over the grassy bit until little man fell down the slope and grazed his head!
  • Refining the art of building with mega blocks
  • Developed a fasinaction for "The Lost Glasses" Peppa Pig lift-the-flap book and we now have to read it every night before bedtime.
  • Has a fantastic GRRRR sound with he uses if you say the word grumpy or he sees a lion or tiger or more importantly Mr Dinosaur!
  • Practiced saying"NO!" and throwing strops.
  • Collecting a variety of leaves, berries, sticks, twigs and feathers any thime we go for a walk and depositing them in the pushchair
  • Oh and the ability to stay awake all day and not have a nap. Major mimble on my part here, however he's gone to bed a lot easier. Hmmmm
I'm finding things hard this week, no real idea why. DH been a stressed out moany, grumpy thing which hasn't helped. Motherhood isn't easy and hasn't been much fun, although it also has!

We enjoyed a lovely night out at a wedding on Saturday, followed by a long lie in on Sunday whilst little man stayed at G&Gs. All back to normal now though.

Think I want an exciting new project to focus on, but we've kind of been there on so many fronts, moved house, changed the cars, got married, had a baby, given up work.

We dream of buying a house in Scotland and doing it up - just need to find the money tree, until then we live in a lovely house and having the park nearby is great. Plus we are off to Wales in a few weeks and Scotland a month later, so defienitly need the money tree! No - seriously, sod worrying about all that, it'll be good to get away.

pears

it's all gone pear shaped. Again. DH has gone off on one about the same usual thing - we can't find the important bit of paper that he needs NOW and has just decided it. Of course, it's my fault because he left it THERE and it's not there now. I must of moved it and if I haven't then I must of let our darling 20 month old son destroy/eat/chew/scribbble and move it to outer cyber space.

He's now stormed off to have what I can only relate to a toddler tantrum after shouting at me and talking to me like I am a small bug that he's very annoyed with.

Just as I thought eveyrthing was going so well and we were wonderfully happy.

I think I might cry, doesn't help but it's how I deal with things so there. Don't know where he's gone though which is very strange and I am a terrible worrier so might be on here back in the small hours. I make this prediction as I am expecting him to come back in at some point and start to tell me that we have to go through every cupboard/pile of papers in the house and design a rigourous filing system as "we can't find anything".

It's him who leaves the stupid stuff all over the house anyway - oh and I haven't been filing my fuel receipts in his special folder so I'm in trouble. I haven't thrown them in the bin either but nowadays I just can't remember anything at all and I can't hear very well either.

Oh well looks like a not very good week coming up - at least I have my little man. He likes Mummy I think.
