Little man is still resisting going to sleep and it's getting worse. We expected him to be upset the first night in a strange place. We'd also put him in a bed with a bed guard - yes he climbed out!! So we had to barricade the bed and make it almost like a cot. Anyway the first night after trying various techniques we gave up trying to sit outside and relax and went into our little man. We gave him more milk and some toast and let him sit with us and read books. Eventually he got sleepier so we tried him back in his bed but no so he ended up in bed with us.
Next day he was so tired he was grizzly all morning and throwing major tantrums it took us ages to realise he was tired so not much fun. This happened every day except for WEdnesday when he actually went to sleep for 10 hours as he was so exhausted. Just as we thought we'd cracked it, the next night it was back to constant screaming again. So all week we had to adapt back to a 2 nap strategy and our normal routine was all over the place! No relaxing evenings together and the bottle of wine we bought is only half drunk.
Needless to say we had great fun taking little man to a beach where he wore his puddle suit and wellingtons and jumped in the puddles left behind by the sea like Peppa Pig, collected muscle shells and gave them to mummy and then realised they could be used as a small spade to dig up silt and sand!
We went to the National Railway Museum and saw lots of choo-choos, walked around York centre, went to a lavendar place and got shouted at for having a picnic when there were no signs saying we couldn't and took little man to a fantastic play place which was both indoor and outdoor and had a petting zoo!
Little man enjoyed helping to get the aqua roll full of water and helping Daddy empty the waste water.
The new awning was a fantastic addition and helped with the lack of space in the caravan. We were also very lucky with the weather and had 4 days of warm sunshine with a slight wind to keep it cool.
We took his ride on toy and he loved driving round the campsite on it he did lots of laps and even went into the tent field. We saw 2 ladies camping together and they appeared to be a couple. Little man pointed to them and said mummy -a -mummy! He also tried pulling out everyone's water pumps and kept doing his annoying obsession of trying to open car doors and if they don't open then shouting "keys" and even running up to you and pointing to your pocket!
I am now very tired and appreciating the large size of our kitchen and looking forward to a lovely hot bath. The campsite was great but a shower at a campsite is just not the same.
Little man's language is showing signs of developing to the next stage, we now get a car, a fish, a mummy, etc... and he's also showing signs of saying mummy ball, ma ball, mummy shoes, very early days but cute.
Oh a we bought him a toy tractor!

I'm glad you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteThe sleeping thing is difficult. We went to stay with friends last year, my little boy was 11 months old and I was 8 months pregnant. It was the only bit of Summer we had, a mini heatwave.
Baby decided he would not sleep in the travel cot - he screamed and screamed - so I had to go to bed with him (at 8pm) in a double bed with a rail and my husband slept on the floor. Let's just say none of us had much sleep and it was lovely to come home!
Ooh, enjoy your bath! x
Very impressed your son is already practicing political correctness re- the lesbian campers! You're definitely doing something very right :-)
